About the role

We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to join an established engineering team in Manchester, working on a diverse range of industrial automation projects across multiple sectors.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on Controls Engineer with strong PLC programming experience across Allen-Bradley / Rockwell, Siemens or B&R platforms, looking to take ownership of technically challenging projects from initial development through to installation and commissioning.

You will work across a varied project portfolio, developing control systems and delivering bespoke automation solutions for a range of industries, offering excellent technical variety and the opportunity to expand your experience across different applications and technologies.

What you will do

  • Design, develop and programme PLC-based control systems for industrial automation applications.
  • Work with PLC platforms including Siemens, Allen-Bradley / Rockwell or B&R.
  • Develop and configure HMI and SCADA systems.
  • Produce and review electrical control system designs, schematics and technical documentation.
  • Take ownership of automation projects from software development through to installation and commissioning.
  • Carry out fault-finding, debugging and optimisation of PLC software and automated machinery.
  • Integrate control systems with industrial equipment, drives, sensors and other automation technologies.
  • Work across a variety of sectors and applications, delivering tailored engineering solutions.
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical and project engineering teams to deliver projects to specification.
  • Support on-site commissioning, testing and troubleshooting activities where required.
  • Ensure control systems meet project requirements, relevant standards and customer specifications.

What you will bring

  • Proven experience in a Controls Engineer, Automation Engineer or similar role.
  • Strong PLC programming experience with Allen-Bradley / Rockwell, Siemens or B&R.
  • Knowledge of HMI development, industrial communications and automated control systems.
  • Experience delivering automation projects from software development through to commissioning.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation.
  • Experience working across industrial automation, machinery or manufacturing environments.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • A flexible approach to working across different technologies, projects and industry sectors.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
