About the role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join an established engineering team in Leicester, working on bespoke machinery and automated engineering solutions.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer with strong 3D CAD experience using SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor or Solid Edge, looking to work on technically challenging projects from initial concept through to detailed design and manufacture.

You will be involved in designing bespoke machinery, mechanical assemblies and automation systems, collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver innovative solutions across a range of industrial applications.

What you will do

Design bespoke machinery, mechanical assemblies and automated equipment using 3D CAD software.
Produce detailed engineering drawings, 3D models and manufacturing documentation.
Utilise SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor or Solid Edge to develop mechanical designs.
Take ownership of mechanical design projects from initial concept through to final design and manufacture.
Design machine frames, fixtures, mechanisms, guarding and associated mechanical components.
Work on special purpose machinery and automated production systems.
Ensure designs meet technical specifications, manufacturing requirements and relevant safety standards.
Collaborate with Controls Engineers, Electrical Design Engineers and Project Engineers to deliver integrated automation solutions.
Select appropriate mechanical components, materials and manufacturing processes.
Support build teams with technical queries, design modifications and engineering improvements.
Review existing designs and identify opportunities to improve performance, reliability and manufacturability.

What you will bring

Proven experience in a Mechanical Design Engineer or similar mechanical engineering role.
Strong 3D CAD experience using SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor or Solid Edge.
Experience producing detailed engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation.
Background in machinery design, automation, special purpose machinery or mechanical engineering.
Knowledge of mechanical assemblies, machine components and manufacturing processes.
Ability to take designs from concept through to detailed engineering and manufacture.
Experience working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills and a practical, hands-on approach to engineering.
